Today we are reminded that following Jesus is not always easy. In Christianity, we model ourselves after someone who gave himself away over and over again. He gave of his time and his wisdom and healing gifts throughout his earthly life, and in the end sacrificed that very life for us. Most of us are not called to the level of self-sacrifice that Jesus models, but it remains true that the life of the Christian is often harder than the life of someone who is not. The commitments of Christianity are real. This is a life which make demands, often uncomfortable or unpopular demands of each of us. We are not promised that everything in life will be easy but we are promised that we will not have to endure it alone. Jesus, who deeply knows our suffering, will be with us until the end of our days. In the Psalm today, we are reminded that we walk before the Lord; there is a sense that God has our back. In the Gospel we follow Jesus; He goes ahead, showing us the way.

An important reminder about Covid safety: Due to the rising number of cases in the Mobile area, parishioners are urged to mask during attendance at Mass and to distance from others. Do your part to beat this virus. If you are able to do so, please get the vaccine. We will get through this safely---together.

Thank you for continuing to support St. Matthew 's with your generous contributions both at Mass and through the mail

A Prayer for 9/11---God of love we place in your loving arms the thousands of innocent lives that were lost on that unforgettable morning of September 11, 2001. We also remember the courage of the countless men and women who put their lives at risk in order to rescue, alleviate and bring solace to the afflicted. As the years have passed so many have suffered and died to keep our world safe from terrorism. We acknowledge their sacrifices and lift them up in prayer to you, almighty Father. Help us to continue to work for a world free from every form of hatred, violence and ignorance. May terrorism -- in all its forms -- disappear from the face of the earth. Amen.
